In the world of urbanism, architecture and landscape, a new paradigm is a new way of doing things that has a huge effect on living spaces. New paradigm draws its roots from the idea of a paradigm shift in science, in which technology or new findings completely change the way people think about or interact with something. In the design disciplines, the idea is the same; a whole new way of looking at living spaces and their changing.

Monkâ??s House in Sussex is the former home of Leonard and Virginia Woolf. It was bought by them in 1919 as a country retreat, somewhere they came to read, write and work in the garden. From the overgrown land behind the house they created a brilliant patchwork of garden rooms, linked by brick paths, secluded behind flint walls and yew hedges. The story of this magical garden is the subject of this book and the author has selected quotations from the writings of the Woolfs which reveal how important a role the garden played in their lives, as a source of both pleasure and inspiration. Virginia wrote most of her major novels at Monkâ??s House, at first in a converted tool shed, and later in her purpose-built wooden writing lodge tucked into a corner of the orchard. Caroline Zoob lived with her husband, Jonathan, at Monkâ??s House for over a decade as tenants of the National Trust, and has an intimate knowledge of the garden they tended and planted. The photographer, Caroline Arber, was a frequent visitor to the house during their tenancy and her spectacular photographs, published here for the first time, often reveal the garden as it is never seen by the public: at dawn, in the depths of winter, at dusk. The photographs and text, enriched with rare archive images and embroidered garden plans, take the reader on a journey through the various garden â??roomsâ??, (including the Italian Garden, the Fishpond Garden, the Millstone Terrace and the Walled Garden). Each garden room is presented in the context of the lives of the Woolfs, with fascinating glimpses into their daily routines at Rodmell. This beautiful book is an absorbing account of the creation of a garden which will appeal equally to gardeners and those with an interest in Virginia and Leonard Woolf.
This revised edition features 250 additional species, including recent cultivars and existing material on such plants as lilies, camellias, pinks, and bulbs.

Following its bestselling edition of Bradshaw's Handbook 1863, Old House brings you this fascinating guide to Europe's rail network on the very brink of the First World War. Published in 1913, it is divided into three sections: timetables for services covering the continent, short guides to each city and notable destination and features, and a wealth of advertisements and ephemeral materials concerning hotels, restaurants and services that might be required by the early twentieth century traveller by rail. It affords a fascinating glimpse of fin de siècle Europe and of a transport network that was shortly to be devastated by the greatest war the world had ever seen.

Author: Graeme Sims
Publisher: Hachette UK

THE DOG WHISPERER is a definitive guide to effective dog training for dog-owners and dog-lovers everywhere.
This book, which is a result of the author's many years of teaching, exposes the readers to the fundamentals of mechanical vibrations and noise engineering. It provides them with the tools essential to tackle the problem of vibrations produced in machines and structures due to unbalanced forces and the noise produced thereof. The text lays emphasis on mechanical engineering applications of the subject and develops conceptual understanding with the help of many worked-out examples. What distinguishes the text is that three chapters are devoted to Sound Level and Subjective Response to Sound, Noise: Effects, Ratings and Regulations and Noise: Sources, Isolation and Control. Importance of mathematical formulation in converting a distributed parameter vibration problem into an equivalent lumped parameter problem is also emphasized. Primarily designed as a text for undergraduate and postgraduate students of mechanical engineering, this book would also be useful for undergraduate and postgraduate students of civil, aeronautical and automobile engineering as well as practising engineers.
